Shakespeare Song Using Shakespeare’s Lyrics – Love Song

Four of the lines in this song are by Shakespeare. See if you can spot which are by Shakespeare. This song is also inspired by Andy William’s Song called A Time For Us.

This love song reimagines what would happen to Romeo and Juliet if they lived together for a long time and how together love would blossom. In the middle of writing this song, I thought it would be fun to use some of Shakespeare’s original lines in the song so I took a few of his lines with rich metaphors and imagery and added them into the song lyrics while at the same time, keeping the song modern and about the singer’s modern love story.

I assumed that adding lyrics by Shakespeare himself would qualify this song for having some of the best song lyrics. I compiled a post with songs with song lyrics I thought were great. Take a look at the lyrics and songs there and judge for yourself.

Here is Andy William’s original song A Time For Us, which is one of the songs this song was inspired by:

If you like the idea of using Shakespeare’s metaphors in a song, check out my page with songs with metaphors which also has songs featuring metaphors by Beethoven and other poets, musicians, and artists. The metaphors make the songs relatable, richer, and more emotional.

Shakespeare song lyrics:

VERSE 1:

What-if Shakespeare tricked us all

With Romeo and Juliet’s rise and fall

Would these teens share joy or tears

Unsaved by death together fifty more years?

CHORUS

I’m shaken by what Shakespeare once realized (harmony here)

“Love is a smoke made with fume of sighs.”

But if I were to describe you with a line from his scripts

I’d say, You have witchcraft on your lips.” Ooooh sweet “witchcraft on your lips.”

VERSE 2:

You make me dream a love greater than all

An endless twirl where I won’t let you fall

In my reverie Shakespeare whispers words anew

His greatest sonnet saved to sing to you

CHORUS

I’m shaken by what Shakespeare once realized (harmony here)

“Love is a smoke made with fume of sighs.”

But if I were to describe you with a line from his scripts

I’d say, You have witchcraft on your lips.” Ooooh sweet “witchcraft on your lips.”

VERSE 3:

It was us in his new tale of love

Fifty years we’ll dance with stars above

On Romeo and Juliet’s balcony

In each other’s hearts of hearts we’ll be

BRIDGE

Without Shakespeare, our love would be a clock that races

To loss imprinted on our faces

Grasping for faint traces Of passion slipped and wasted

Through hands that held embraces desperate for love’s graces

Never to replace it….but you and i will never have to face this

VERSE 4

Each night falling asleep under star glow

I’ll whisper like Romeo long ago

Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow

That I shall say good night till it be morrow.

That I shall say good night till it be morrow.

Want To Write Your Own Poetry Or Song Lyrics?

I write because I want to create something beautiful to share with others. For example, here are my love songs with romantic lyrics. If you want to create something similar in the style that I create, I have a number of tutorials on how to write poetry like mine that focuses on our shared humanity and at least attempts to have dreamy and rich lyrics. Here is my tutorial on how to write metaphors. And here is a video tutorial on how to write metaphors:
