This is a sweet and nostalgic song is inspired by Shakespeare’s line “Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs.” It’s also inspired by a Socratic dialog in which Socrates debates what is beauty.
That original Socratic dialog never comes to a concrete answer, and this song is my attempt of answer the question of what is beauty. It is my small but earnest contribution to philosophy: beauty is that which inspires.
The song features dreamy and poetic lyrics. The sound and feel of the song is mellow. It’s a soft, melodic, and gentle ballad – just like the wind of sighs might be if it was real. The reason for such a bold statement is that it took me 20 years of thinking about the philosophical question of what is beauty in order to come up with a satisfactory answer. Beauty isn’t a pretty girl or great action. Those are examples of beauty.
What what is the essence of beauty? What abstract element is present in all beautiful things?
To answer that, I had to think for a long time, and come up with my own definition of beauty: it’s that which inspires.
In this song, the lyric “She’s beautiful because she inspires” isn’t just another line. It took me twenty years to come up with this idea! That’s why I boldly added this song to my list of songs with the best lyrics.
A Touch Of Loneliness
Throughout this song, there are echos of loneliness. It’s as though the heroine of the song is beautiful and inspiring, but she is “on a cloud for one – lonely, just kissed by the sun.” She has it all while not having everything she needs.
